Industrial Living { Décor Inspiration }

Raw, minimalistic industrial living spaces have been popping up all over the place and it’s hard not to fall head over heels in love with the sleek lines and endless shades of grey. Here are a couple of ideas for introducing the theme into your home:

  • Start by stripping away any cupboards around basins in the kitchen and bathroom to expose those industrial pipes and fittings.
  • Bring antique furniture pieces with chipped paintwork into your home and, to complement it, chip away at the walls to expose some of that stunning raw brickwork hiding underneath.
  • Use industrial style metal pipes to build anything from lamps and bookshelves to clothes racks and shelves.
  • Old crates are ideal for storage, shelves and mini end tables or to be utilised as extra seating around the house.
  • Rusty oil drums and other metal buckets add a lovely rustic touch to any home – turn them into lampshades, planter pots or versatile storage containers.
  • Incorporate oversized gears and metal off-cuts into the overall décor of your home – for instance, to create interesting wall art or hanging decorations.
  • Introduce naked light bulbs, in various shapes and sizes, into the kitchen and living room.
  • Wooden pallets have fast become popular among DIY furniture designers. Stack ‘em and turn it into a coffee table, movable storage units or even a futon.
  • Use oversized clamps to keep DIY furniture pieces together, or clamp it onto a bookshelf as industrial bookends.
  • Finally, the trick to pulling off this theme without it feeling cold and impersonal is to add dashes of colour and plant life throughout the house.
