  • ¼ cup of butter or margarine
  • 250g pack of marshmallows or 5 cups of mini marshmallows
  • ½ tsp vanilla essence
  • 6 cups of Rice Krispies (puffed rice) cereal
  • 200g white chocolate
  • Pink food colouring
  • 100g additional chocolate (we chose white, but normal chocolate is perfect!)
  • Hundreds and thousands sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in the microwave or in a large saucepan over low heat.
  • Add marshmallows and place back on the stove or in the microwave.
  • Stirring constantly until marshmallows have completed melted.
  • Add vanilla essence and stir well.
  • Pour in the Rice Krispies and mix mixture with a rubber spatula until all the cereal is coated in sticky marshmallow.
  • Choose one of the 2 options below:
    • Spoon mixture into a heart shaped cookie cutter, transfer onto a cookie sheet and release the heart shape from the cutter. Leave to set.
    • Spoon mixture into a well-greased baking tray and spread it out to about 2 cm thick. Use the cookie cutter to cut heart shapes out of the mixture and release on a cookie sheet. Leave to set.
  • After about an hour, it’s time to get your creative hat on and decorate!
  • Melt the 200g chocolate in a double boiler. If you chose to use white chocolate, you can stir in a few of drops of pink (or colour of your choice) food colouring.
  • Dip one half of the heart into the coloured chocolate
  • Allow the extra chocolate to drip off before placing the heart on the baking tray lined with wax paper.
  • Repeat dipping steps above until all hearts have been dipped. Set aside for an hour to dry.
  • Melt the 100g chocolate in a clean double boiler.
  • Drizzle the chocolate over the hearts as desired and leave to set.

Word of warning: These are moreish, so some self restraint may need to be in order to try not to eat it all in one go! Enjoy!
