LG Sapience 15kg Smart Inverter Top Loader Review

by Claire Minnaar

Recently, I had the opportunity of reviewing yet another LG product and this time around it was the LG Smart Inverter Top Loader and today, I share my thoughts on this awesome machine.

What can I say, it’s sleek, sexy and can do a huge load of washing – Perfect for a family! Our house consisting of two adults, 2 kids, 3 dogs and a fish (R.I.P Fish), like most families produces a lot of washing. Where it comes from and if it always that dirty (kids throwing everything in the washing basket) is not always clear. What I do know is that our 6kg front loader was taking a bit of  strain.

That’s why, when I was asked to review the 15kg LG Smart Inverter Top Load Washing Machine, I jumped at the opportunity. I had visions of washing everything in one load. The towels, the sheets, the kid’s clothes, the kids and dogs all in one go! Well, not quite the kids and dogs, but one can dream! 🙂

When the washing machine arrived and was unboxed, I was impressed by how sleek and modern it looked, with a grey finish and stylish glass cover – it really is a nice looking machine. On closer inspection, the biggest surprise was the washing drum size. It is huge! My dreams of fitting everything into one load are actually not too far off. You can easily do big loads that you would normally battle with in a smaller front loader.

After the washing machine arrived, it needed to be installed. My hubby decided to take on the task. The installation was actually pretty easy. We had a few challenges with where to put the machine as the front loader fits snugly under a countertop. Fortunately, we had a bit of space elsewhere in a corner but did need to do a bit of “plumbing” to get the water supply to the toploader.  Nothing too major, just needed to get a splitter to split the water supply to the dishwasher and the washing machine. Our other challenge was that there is a hot water inlet as well, which does make it easier to get stains out but is not completely necessary.

All installed, the moment of truth, the first load…The verdict – easy as it gets! For the first wash, we used one of the one-touch functions – Normal Program. Used for normal loads, this mode automatically selects the most appropriate conditions and completes the sequence in one operation. The built-in sensor detects the size of the load and the ideal wash power and wash, rinse and spin times are set accordingly. Basically, it does everything for you except put the washing in.

Pros:

  • Great design
  • Easy to use
  • Glass lid that looks great and also allows you easy access to your washing.
  • Large capacity

Cons:

There are none here, except given the current water shortage, larger top loaders are water heavy, so we use this one wisely.

I would highly recommend this machine. It has an excellent 10-year warranty and I can see it being a workhorse in our family for years to come. Also, we have hardly scratched the surface with what this machine can do. There are loads of other automatic functions that can handle heavy stains to delicate items.
