The holiday is just about on its back which means it’s time to get the kiddies’ imagination and innovative spirit up and running again. Play dough is the perfect home learning tool as it moulds the brain just like, well, play dough! What’s more, if your budget is a little tight like the rest of us, this recipe is that much more ideal as it provides a quick, easy, affordable and no-bake way to whip up a batch of play dough in no time.
What you’ll need:
- 250 ml flour
- 250 ml water
- 10 ml cream of tartar
- 75 ml salt
- 15 ml cooking oil
- A dash of food colouring
- Glitter (optional)
Now to get you started:
- Sift the dry flour into a mixing bowl.
- Slowly add the water, half a cup at a time, mixing well until a smooth dough starts to form.
- Add the remaining ingredients and get mixin’ once more, until everything is combined!
- Place the mixture on a cutting board and knead well until the dough reaches a proper play dough feel and consistency.
To make the play dough experience even more exciting for your little ones, invest in a variety of cookie cutters or arm them with mini rulers – ideal for cutting the dough into shapes without risk of injury. An excellent tip for keeping mess to the minimum is investing in a couple of cheap melamine tea trays which are to be used solely for clay play.
