Tell us a bit about YOU and your family (where you are based, single / married, number of kids, etc)

I am in Johannesburg, been married for almost 7 years and have two daughters – Jessica 4 and Sarah 1

What is the name of your company and when did you start your business?

Wedding Connexion – starts 2008

What inspired you to start your own business?

I studied 5 years to be an accountant but I knew I wouldn’t be able to work full time and be a mom, so I decided to open my company so that I could be available to them whenever they need me.

What are the challenges you face or have faced being a working Mom and how have you overcome them?

I have been lucky as I do most of my work at home so I still get to see my daughters all the time, but the biggest challenge is separating work time from family time, you have to set times for each else you find yourself always at your pc working.

What is the hardest part or have been some of your struggles starting your own business?

The hardest part was convincing my husband.

How do you balance your business and your family?

I need to set working hours – if I don’t I find myself working all the time. My youngest daughter is still at home with me and she is very demanding so she make sure I spend time with her.

What or whom has been the greatest support for you and your business?

My parents and my husband, my parents are always around to go do whatever needs to be done at the shop if I can’t make it, my mom works at the shop on Saturdays as it gets quiet busy and I can’t go in as my weekends are my family’s time. My husband was the financial support.

If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?

No.

What advice can you give other Moms out there who are starting a new business?

Make sure you set your hours and stick to them. Don’t neglect your family in the process, especially if your husband works as you need a parent around. It is good to follow your dreams but remember not to miss the growing up of your children – it happens way to fast.
